Well it took me a week to find someone to help me flip the boat and then another week before I could get time to really work on it. I spent some time last week squaring the chines and evening them to the bottom. Tomorrow I will be rounding and finishing the chines including fiberglassing them. I will include pictures with my updates report Sunday night! Boat is looking great and can't wait to share with everyone!

- My name is Caleb Viano. Currently I am a senior at The New School of Kennebunk, ME. I am a very passionate outdoorsman and enjoy many hobbies that have to do with being outside. This semester I have chosen to build a drift boat as my senior project. Not only will this wonderful hands-on experience give me very useful knowledge for the rest of my life, it will also provide excellent opportunities for others to learn from my project.

This semester I will be building a wooden drift boat for my senior project. Construction will start sometime early December and will continue until completion, hopefully sometime before spring. During this time I will be keeping this blog up to date with every step involved in building a drift boat. After completion I will have a public exhibition (date TBA). Due to the high cost of building a drift boat, I am asking for donations from all who can afford to help. No donation is too small or large, but I know how difficult it can be to determine the right amount so I have provided an easy option below…

what's happened with your project since our last meeting?
maybe i have missed it somehow...
how's the planning for your final RT going?
have you ever seen a buddhist mandala? it's a sand painting- very elaborate and beautiful- done as a meditation by a monk. your boat seems to be your mandala- the key difference is that you keep the boat. the monk has a ceremony where he sweeps the mandala away...but the process and focus are very much the same.
